Performance: NMSA First Thursdays / October
October 4 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm| Free
New Mexico School for the Arts is in the midst of renovating and repurposing their new Railyard location, and they’re wasting no time injecting fresh creative energy into the arts district. The arts high school presents a special performance series at form & concept, hosted by faculty members and showcasing outstanding student musicians, fiction writers and poets. October’s event is a collaborative concert between students from the Senior Creative Writing Seminar and students from the Composition & Contemporary Music track in the Music Department.
Students from NMSA’s Creative Writing program and Music Department join forces to present an evening of work that explores the overlaps between the spoken word and experimental sound. The interdisciplinary effort combines imagery and sound to evoke a powerful sense of place.
The evening’s program features brand new works of verse, prose, and storytelling from the Senior Creative Writing Seminar alongside their musical “responses” from Composition students’ graphic scoring project, which will be projected as works for visual consideration during the evening’s performances. The program will be stitched together by a series of “postcard pieces” written as dedications to each of these Far-Seeing Places by composer & NMSA Music Department Chair Kurt Isaacson & performed by flutist & NMSA Music Department faculty Elise Roy.
