Santa Fe Style

Designer Jenn Carroll Wilson- Gallery Talk at Form & Concept- Santa Fe New Mexico
San Francisco-based designer Jenn Carroll Wilson will speak at form & concept on
Saturday, December 3 at 2:00 pm, along with Peter Calvert.

Santa Fe has long been a crossroads for forward-thinking artists, but its latest design wave crested way back in the 1990’s. Christine Mather’s late 80’s book Santa Fe Style and the national design craze it inspired have taken their place in the history books. Now we’re envisioning Santa Fe as a crossroads for contemporary designers, and stirring up new energy through exhibitions like ReFashion, Virtual Object, and our new show, Radical Jewelry Makeover Artist Project. We’re excited to see other fashion projects popping up in the community, most notably the Santa Fe Reporter column by local style maven Amy Davis. She wrote about our upcoming gallery talk with Jenn Carroll Wilson and Peter Calvert of Ethical Metalsmiths in this week’s column:

Check this out: On Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 pm, form & concept (435 S. Guadalupe St., 982-8111) presents a talk with San Francisco-based jewelry designer Jenn Carroll Wilson about the ethics of metalsmithing. Did you know a single gold ring creates over 20 tons of mine waste?

GRR! Makes you mad, but this incredibly conscious and talented jewelry designer-cum-artist should diffuse your fuse. “My work is not political, so anger does not show itself in my made pieces, but it does in the creation of making them,” Wilson told me via email. “I find anger, despair, depression … all of the dark arts … find the light in creativity.”

Wilson’s creations are modern, elegant and simple. [She] offers her powerful view through quiet design.

Click here to read the whole column, and make sure to RSVP for Saturday’s event on our Facebook page.  Wilson and Calvert will discuss the impetus and values behind Radical Jewelry Makeover, which is the culmination of a four-year program led by their organization in communities across the nation.
