Kate Ruck’s practice is based in world building and explores the connection between societal structures, culture and digital media. Ruck, b. 1982 in Detroit, Michigan, graduated with a degree in Video Game Design, and since then through a sculptural based practice, confronts different aspects of symbolism, avatars, gamification, and “second-worlds.”  Ruck approaches identity as gaming avatar, embracing culturally iconic materials to simultaneously challenge and exploit essentialism. Kate Ruck currently lives and works between Michigan, New York and New Mexico.
