Kat Cole planned to enroll as a ceramics major when she began her undergraduate work at Virginia Commonwealth University, but the classes were full and she took a beginning jewelry class instead and never looked back. A seemingly endless range of techniques to be mastered in the intimate scale of contemporary jewelry drew her in. During Cole's last semester of undergraduate, Helen Carnac came for a week as a visiting artist to teach enameling. So she was introduced to working with steel and enamel as a combo from early on, and attributed that experience to the direction her work took a few years later.
Kat Cole received her MFA at East Carolina University and BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and was a Visiting Professor in Metals/Jewelry at Western Michigan University. Cole is currently a full-time studio artist in Dallas, TX and is the co-founder of Jewelry Edition. She has been a presenter at Yuma Symposium and Craft Boston, teaches workshops nationally and has exhibited internationally. Cole’s work is in private and public collections including The Museum of Arts and Design in New York City and Houston Museum of Fine Art.
