The 3-D spherical, chandelier titled “143” is made from the stems of the tall-tumble-mustard plant. “143” is arranged as an organic, cellular, network of twig-lines joined and held in place by 143 smoked-stem, cross-section connectors. This artwork references our interconnectivity and acceptance as being vital to holding together the form of a loving community. The number of connections in the piece and the title are inspired by Fred Rogers’ commitment to love. He once said, ‘It takes one letter to say I and four letters to say love and three letters to say you. One hundred and forty-three.’ Mister Rogers focused his message of unconditional love and acceptance toward the children of the world. As a child who grew up with Mister Rogers and an artist who titles all artwork by numbers that add up to 8 (infinity), leaving beauty and emotion as the only residue for these impermanent creations, this piece was a natural for me to create. “143” shines light through connection with an intention of love for all, no matter how one is born or what family we are born into, we are all family...sending infinite love to all our inner-children and family.
