Snow Code is a visual artifact resulting from performance experiments that explore the live processing of digitally generated video noise to produce sound. This artifact is part of David Stout’s primary practice in live cinema performance and immersive sound and image installations. It is his conviction, as a builder of virtual worlds and ephemeral experiences, that we should recognize that new media have no inherent ascendancy over old media and more importantly that our future will be to seek an integration of the staggering generative power of computation with the fruits of material science and the technical acumen of the traditional arts, whether it is weaving, glass blowing, dance or song.
