Arpilleras are patchwork pieces, made out of scraps of cloth. In Chile they often are used for depicting political themes and are examples of subversive women's art. For Arpillera Mirror, the artist selected eight different arpilleras made by Chilean artist Violeta Parra (1917-1967), who is mostly known for her work as a folk researcher and singer-songwriter. Parra's arpilleras were used for training machine learning algorithms, using the technique called style transfer, resulting in this interactive piece that allows you to see yourself in an arpillera style. This online piece uses the JavaScript open source libraries m15.js and p5.js, developed and used by artists and programmers for creative purposes.
