Natures Paintbox - Bundle Dying With Botanicals
One Day Workshop: Thurs, Aug 9th 10:00am - 5:00pm with a break for lunch
Materials Fee: $25
Join Fiber Artist and Natural Dyer Wendy Getchell and experience the magic that happens when using plants to dye fabric.
You will discover the alchemy of water, plant materials, heat and natural oxides, and end the day with your own bundle dyed scarf and dyed silk ribbon.
We will begin the day with a brief introductory session, followed by a stroll down historic Canyon Road to view the beautiful gallery gardens and discuss the various plants and how they can be used for dying. There will even be some gathering of materials along the way.
Returning to the Workshop, you will choose your materials from a wide variety of provided flowers, leaves and teas. Before we begin our bundles, you will learn different techniques for bundling and tying the fabric. When finished bundling, the steaming process will begin as you break for a healthy catered lunch and beverages.
When the bundles have finished steaming and cooling we will begin the big reveal as we share our creations with our fellow participants and discuss our individual processes. At this point, you will be given the option to perform a bit of magic with oxides and salts to change the colors your plants have given you.
We end the day with a group discussion and you will be given some insight into other types of dying with plant material.
Note: Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind staining and comfortable walking shoes. You may want to bring a water bottle and feel free to bring your own flowers and leaves for dying (optional).
