"Fire Wood is a sculpture made out of found wood from a recent wildfire burn scar in the Jemez Mountains, in Northern New Mexico. When I found it, the piece of wood was unrecognizable from its current state. It had several inches of char surrounding it, which I removed with wire brushes. After removing the char, the stunning form that was shaped by the fire was revealed. I then sanded it until it was glassy smooth and applied a stain. The bottom is painted with copper paint- referring to our more polished selves that can only be expressed after being exposed to the coarseness of challenge and adversity." - Matthew Mullins
