Nicki Green addresses the aesthetics of otherness and the preservation of lesser known histories in her purple and white ritual vessels that draw upon traditional blue and white Delftware archetypes. As a trans, queer and Jewish artist, Green incorporates narratives from her community into her ritual ware to celebrate the process of healing and transformation as individuals find their true sense of self. In this piece, Green celebrates gender-reassignment surgery and the spiritual experience that many feel after going through this difficult process.
Nicki Green is a transdisciplinary artist working primarily in clay. Originally from New England, she completed her BFA in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2009 and her MFA in Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018.
